Laser skin resurfacing can smooth the surface of your skin while stimulating growth in the underlying layers. It can tighten skin and reduce the appearance of wrinkles, in turn, making you look and feel youthful.
Laser resurfacing can help with a wide range of skin problems because it removes the rough outer layer of dead skin cells while also encouraging regeneration in the deeper skin. You can use this treatment to eliminate lines and wrinkles, to smooth away rough patches, and to tighten sagging skin. However, you can also have it to improve the appearance of scars, including acne scars, or to treat pigmentation problems.
The CO2 Fractional Laser Skin Resurfacing uses the same basic technology as traditional ablative resurfacing, but instead of burning off a large section of skin, the fractional approach burns only selected sections of skin. Since the area between the burned areas is still healthy, healing times are greatly improved. Thus, there is less downtime and a much lower complication rate. A fractional laser treatment is also convenient, requiring a minimum of anesthesia and usually taking only one session.
The burning action of the lasers stimulates collagen production in the skin overall, causing it to plump up and remove wrinkles. Treatment can be performed anywhere on the face, neck, chest and hands.
The effects of laser resurfacing can depend on factors such as your skin tone that need to be taken into account. Harley Street Surgery can help you to decide whether it is right for you. We may recommend other treatments such as chemical peels if they are more suitable.
Laser skin resurfacing is usually done with just a local anaesthetic.
You can have a sedative to help you relax during the procedure.
The doctor will use a special laser to target the treatment area to the required depth. The laser can be adjusted for different skin types and to treat different skin problems. Treating a small area can take less than half an hour, but larger treatments will take longer.
Once the anaesthetic wears off, your skin will feel raw, but painkillers should help.
You’ll need to take a few days off and it can be up to 10 days before your skin heals.
You should begin to see results by this time, but it can take up to 6 weeks to 6 months for the redness to fade completely and the full results to be seen.
You will need to protect yourself from the sun during this period to prevent pigmentation problems.
Although severe side effects are rare, there is a risk of infection and other problems, which Harley Street Surgery will explain in detail before the procedure.
