Chemical peels have shown significant improvement in both men and women who are physically healthy, psychologically stable and are realistic in their expectations.
It is beneficial in patients who have discolourations and acne scars.
Alternatives to Chemical Peels include laser treatments and microdermbrasion.
A low concentration of the peeling agent is applied to the skin. This initiates the peeling process causing the uppermost layer of the skin to peel off allowing healthier looking skin to replace the old skin.
Majority of patients achieve the desired results after 1 – 2 treatments. Some may require further treatments to achieve the desired effect as medical treatment is not an exact science and the degree of improvement varies.
Infections and mild pigmentation problems can occur as a result of a chemical peel more often than not from not following post-peel instructions.
Some patients return to work the same day and some take a little more time to heal and may return to work in a few days time.
It is extremely important to avoid direct sun exposure for 4 – 6 weeks pre-chemical peel and 4 – 6 weeks post chemical peel.
