Unsightly scars and stretch marks, or striae, have presented problems for men and women for centuries. Scars and stretch marks are generally considered unsightly, disfiguring and unacceptable by many people.

What to Expect

Lasers are the most effective treatments for stretch mark removal available today.

After treatment you will see improvement in the texture, diameter and depth of the stretch marks.

You should avoid sun exposure and tanning before treatment, as having newly tanned skin can limit your options.

The number of treatments needed depends on the severity of your stretch marks, their color (white stretch marks require more sessions to improve the skin’s texture), how long you’ve had them, your age, and the overall condition of your skin. Treatments are typically spread out over 3 - 4 weeks.

Harley Street Surgery of London has been on the forefront of medical innovation. We continuously offer patients the most cutting edge techniques in medical treatment. Are Stretch Marks Removal For You?

Stretch marks most often develop when the skin is excessively stretched during pregnancy, weight gain, or growth spurts. Because of the rapid expansion, tiny tears appear in the supporting layers of skin. The dermis breaks down, leaving behind shiny, depressed marks that sometimes look like long scars.

Stretch marks get their red and purple colors when stretching causes the blood vessels to dilate. Over time, the color will fade and the bands will become lighter in color than the surrounding skin, meaning they are still very obvious to the eye.

Many patients have tried topical creams and gels for stretch mark removal and found that they are not effective. The same goes for options like dermabrasion and chemical peels, which also provide poor results.

In the meantime, lasers have revolutionized the stretch mark removal process. Lasers work to stimulate the skin’s natural synthesis of collagen, a protein-rich compound that repairs and rejuvenates skin tissue. Lasers also seal broken blood vessels and repair the fibers of the middle skin to help “fill in” the stretch marks.

The best candidates for Stretch Mark Removal are both men and women between the ages of 18 and 65.

This treatment may be appropriate for younger or older patients depending upon the consultation

You should be physically healthy and be sure to tell your doctor if you have any medical conditions.

Also, it is important to notify if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant during the treatment period.

It is important that you don’t have unrealistic expectations. If so, you should discuss this with your physician prior to beginning treatment.
